Director, Procurement & Purchasing

The Director of Procurement & Purchasing is responsible for creating and leading the procurement strategy for Business Unit Port Cranes and Business Unit Solutions, ensuring the effective acquisition of direct and indirect materials and services. The role includes developing procurement policies, overseeing contract negotiations, and supplier relationship management to enhance efficiency and profitability.

 

In this leadership role, you will lead your Procurement and Purchasing teams located in Hyvinkää, Finland and Xiamen, China to excel in their activities. You will develop the policies and procedures as well as the supplier dynamics that will optimize efficiency, costs, and have a positive impact in the Business Units' and Business Lines' P&L. Your team will have tactical responsibility for the development and implementation of policies, procedures and systems that support the business and materials management of goods and services.

In addition, you will partner with Corporate and Business Area procurement to implement common policies in Konecranes and leverage the scaling opportunities of common suppliers’ strategies. You and your team will assure the proper material management flow, in respect to the production plan and deliveries for the customers.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and communicate the procurement business plan while setting long-term strategic goals for the department.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with corporate procurement and implement common strategies.
  • Develop and oversee procurement policies and procedures to maximize organizational value and efficiency.
  • Define and implement supporting KPIs to drive operational excellence
  • Conduct high-level contract negotiations and manage tendering processes for project specific purchases.
  • Drive supplier collaboration, development, and compliance initiatives.
  • Foster strong supplier relationships and manage strategic supplier dynamics.
  • Lead sourcing experts and operational purchasing teams, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Responsible for the department's contribution to the Business Units' P&L through effective cost management.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in business, engineering, logistics, or a related field, with a Master’s or additional qualifications being advantageous .
  • Extensive experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, and supplier management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to develop and retain a high-performing procurement team.
  • Strong strategic thinking, negotiation skills, and a global mindset.
  • Ability to drive change and influence across an international environment.
  • Unquestionable ethical standards and integrity.

This is a full-time permanent position in Finland. The position holder is part of the BU Port Cranes Supply organization and reports to Director, Supply, BU Port Cranes. Due to the global scope of the position international business travel is required.
