Lead Data Engineer

Within the IT organization of Konecranes, the Data to Knowledge unit is a cornerstone in empowering a data-driven transformation. This is achieved through advancements in analytics and data science, along with data governance, master data management, and data quality across the Konecranes business units.

 

We are looking for a data-enthusiastic Lead Data Engineer to join our IT Data to Knowledge organization. In this role you will be a part of the team which enables Konecranes data-driven business with the Data Platform, Reporting and Analytics capabilities.

 

The position is hybrid-remote and based in our headquarters in Hyvinkää, Finland.

 

 

Your key responsibilities

 

As a Lead Data Engineer your primary responsibility is to design and implement technical proof of concepts and prototypes related to data discovery, combining and processing of data, using a suite of data engineering and analytics toolsets. You will independently manage complex data exploration requirements by designing innovative solutions in an agile and collaborative manner. As a Lead, you lead other Data Engineers as technical lead: you plan, assign and coordinate work, and make sure that as a team the development work is done with quality and on-time, and the solutions are well-performing on the  technical level.

 

In the big picture, you actively contribute to implementing the IT and Technology strategies and Data Driven Company by working closely with Senior Solution Architect to develop the data platform with your hands-on contribution to technology research and prototyping.

 

As part of the data engineering team, you will work closely with architects, solution designers, data engineers, data specialists and data scientists on a variety of data and analytics projects. Your solutions will range from technology prototypes/demos, reusable data sets, and optimized queries to fully automated data processing applications and APIs.

 

 

What you should bring

 

To succeed in this role, you have a university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar, and a solid track record of developing and deploying robust production grade ETL solutions. You are an expert in database design and SQL programming and strive to create innovative and breakthrough solutions.

 

You have a passion to learn and work with various technologies. You are open to challenging even your own experience and starting fresh when the situation demands it.

 

You have about 6-8 years of extensive proven hands-on experience in data and analytics development in the following areas:

 

  • Databases, at least one of the following SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL
  • Sound programming knowledge with Java/Scala and Python
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Data & Analytics technologies
  • Expert level SQL scripting and query optimization
  • Data warehousing, big data, stream and batch processing with PySpark and Azure Cloud

    The following are also your strengths:
  • Version management, Access control, data security
  • Strong problem-solving, reverse engineering and debugging skills
  • Fluent verbal and written English
