Engineered To Order (ETO) sales support for Automated Bridge Crane applications for all Regional Sales Managers in North America and Mexico.  Case by case sales support for Brazil and other Hispano American locations may be required.  The primary customer base will be process industries end customers in all Strategic Market Areas (SMA’s) that use process duty cranes used in steel mills, steel distribution, aluminum mills, foundry’s, copper, pulp & paper, lumber, automotive, waste to energy and other industries where automated cranes are used.  There is a metals industry focus in this role.

  • Assist all Sales team members in securing orders for automated bridge crane projects and have a working knowledge with the following:
    • Proficient knowledge with Siemens PLC, HMI & I/O products
    • Understanding of electrical systems design including NEC codes, motor controls, VFD’s, resolvers, encoders, laser measurement, proximity devices, ProfNet/Profibus, Ethernet/IP, Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA), etc.
    • Creating functional descriptions and creating system architectures for hardware/software interfaces
    • Level 1 (field devices), Level 2 (Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)), Level 3 (Manufacturing Enterprise (Execution) Systems (MES)), Level 4 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)) automation technology.
    • Understanding of and application of machinery safety requirements for US and International standards for automated systems (personnel protection, redundant & safety PLC’s, etc.)
    • Networking devices and software for industrial WiFi & WLAN communication
    • Understanding of wiring diagrams, bill of materials, PLC programs, participation in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and site start-up and commissioning activities
    •  Ability to understand a customer technical RFQ specifications and write qualifications to meet other standards
  • Develop sales and marketing tools and techniques to facilitate the sale of fully automated cranes using Konecranes standard platform for hardware and software (Siemens S7)
    • Create and present general PowerPoint presentations for automation sales training/overview
    • Create and present custom PowerPoint presentations for customer/specific projects
  • Identifying and tracking large process crane projects in the various industries (metals SMA emphasis).
  • Solicit inquiries for new crane projects and do appropriate project spec take-off (particularly regarding all automation related specs) with working knowledge of all KC products.
  • Coordinate with Offer Engineers and work with cost estimating tools and assist in preparation of proposals and /or complete cost or proposal generation.
  • Create and manage large project datasheets, consolidating multiple cranes data for customer ease of use for crane specs, pricing, commonality comparisons, etc.
  • Proficient use of internal estimating software – Markman and spreadsheets
  • Proficient use of Konecranes CRM for sales case management tools to manage metals sales cases
  • Create and assist with marketing materials from custom PPT’s for customers projects to generic brochures and other sales related needs.
  • Presentation skills to successfully explains KC offering/quotations to customers and follow up with additional information as required to complete the sale.
  • Travel to customers sites routinely with the regional sales manager and assist with all aspects of a sale from spec development to participation with negotiations for orders
  • Submit accurate and monthly reports as requested of supervisor
  • Assists with resolution of warranty issues when requested
  • Position location is flexible – working from a home office acceptable
  • A training period and associated compensation package will be presented.  Bonus and/or commission plan included.
  • Train and stay up to date on product platform designs and latest features for all crane products.
  • Attend and participate (present) in industry trade shows as needed (i.e. AIST Crane and Steel shows, etc.)
  • Report to VP of Sales and support ETO Regional Sales Managers daily with their projects to ensure our best opportunities to get orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation or Software Engineering or preferred or equivalent experience in automation/crane industry.


SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: A minimum of five years experience in automation industry preferably in the application of heavy duty material handling equipment or have the aptitude to learn on a fast track capital equipment sales and technical sales support in a fast-paced environment handling many simultaneous projects.  Knowledgeable in sales and estimating with a thorough understanding of reading drawings. Highly developed communication, sales organization, and estimating skills.  Knowledge of estimating and design software or ability to learn.  Must be proficient in MS Office products.
