POSITION SUMMARY:

 

This mechanical engineer will be primarily responsible for designing and developing the manufacturing mechanical packages for Engineered-to-Order (ETO) cranes and equipment. This engineer will have a detailed knowledge of weldments, mechanical drive systems, hoisting systems and structural design as related to overhead cranes and hoists. This engineer will be able to take the calculations and output from the Application Engineers who bid the crane and develop the manufacturing package. The engineer will work with designer/drafters to direct them for the development of the drawings and Bills-of-Materials (BOM) and verify the accuracy of their work. Support the engineering department in all phases of product or development engineering activities related to the creation of product designs, production drawings, weldments and bills of materials.

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Function as a lead person on projects by providing technical supervision to drafters and layout drafters on a daily basis for individual projects to which they are jointly assigned. Work with the project manager to establish work requirements, meet release schedules, and daily review of work activities.

 

Participate in resolving manufacturing problems (shop or field) by working with other engineers and service technicians, along with persons in other departments, to research and define problems, research, and prepare solutions by effectively communicating with the necessary personnel.

 

Provide input to design improvements by providing information to the chief engineer that shows improved functions and/or cost reduction.

 

SECONDARY RESPONSIBLITIES

 

  • Responsible for creating the Skeleton Structure in Teamcenter within 2-3 day lead time after receipt of Order Acknowledgement, and distributes Excel version to the appropriate personnel.
  • Reviews the project Technical Specifications, Sale Proposal, and Sales Estimate and clarifies as needed all requirements with the Project Manager.  Ensure all aspects of the specification are followed and met in the mechanical design
  • Creates Crane General Arrangement Drawing.
  • Makes Crane Steel Structure Calculation using in-house programs and supporting calculation tools.
  • Creates Subcontracted Engineering Workorder
  • Knowledge about Konecranes’s legacy winches (SM, UM, CXT, PDW, GL, LV, PRT) has an added advantage
  • Responsible for Engineering project hours and schedules them in our data system
  • Responsible for maintaining Project Engineering Schedules in our data system
  • Responsible for making all Third Party Electro-Mechanical Component Requirements, 
  • Specifications, and Supporting External Vendors as needed.
  • Approves all drawings and crane design EBOMs in TeamCenter.
  • Schedules Electrical Coordination Meetings, Phase l, Phase Il and all necessary follow-ups as needed to close all open issues.
  • Change Management, Manages and coordinates changes
  • Provides Transportation or Erection Drawings as needed.
  • Tracks design engineering Quality issues and provides feedback for improvement to Quality Department.
  • Confirm that all final documents and calculations are submitted to the PM, with final copies stored and maintained in TeamCenter.
  • Stay current on Standards and Norms, most importantly: CMAA, AWS, OSHA, ASCE
  • Perform duties as directed by the Manager, Component Engineering.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

           

Must have BSME or BSMET

 

3 to 5 years of mechanical engineering/drafting experience (e.g. AutoCAD, Solidworks, Vertex G4 or Siemens NX), and experience in designing weldments, drive systems, structures, hoisting systems, and gearing experience preferred.

 

Knowledgeable with using and applying the AISC, CMAA, and ASME B30 codes.

 

Ability to lead and work with others to maximize their productivity. Extremely important is the ability to be customer focus and work with even the most challenging individuals.

 

Be able to understand, read, and mark up weldment drawings, machining drawings, assembly drawings, and Bills of Material released by Engineering.

 

Great interpersonal skills and ability to work with Project Managers and Engineers.

 

Self-Starter with strong organizational skills
