Job Title: Crane Manufacturing Subcontractor Manager
We are looking for an experienced Subcontractor Manager to oversee the manufacture of cranes and components at subcontractor facilities across the United States. The Subcontractor Supervisor’s responsibilities include:
- Ensuring conformance with Konecranes and Customer design specifications
- Monitoring Subcontractor performance against Konecranes and Customer Quality requirements
- Monitoring progress against schedules
- Engaging with Konecranes engineers to resolve problems
- Identifying risks and working on mitigation plans
- Verify capabilities and capacity availability at subcontractors
The below list of tasks is representative of the work to performed but does not include everything.
- Maintain regular On-Site presence at each Subcontractor, including a published schedule of planned rotation between Subcontractor sites
- Identify critical fabrication points when additional support will be required to cover all Subcontractor sites
- Provide guidance to ensure Subcontractors understand fabrication drawings
- In coordination with Konecranes Engineers provide technical guidance to Subcontractor
- Share knowledge of typical problems associated with Crane fabrication along with methods to avoid those problems
- Share knowledge of fabrication processes and procedures to ensure all Engineering specifications and Quality requirements will be met
- Provide suggestions / support to Subcontractors for Scheduling to ensure all fabrication work is completed within the Project Schedule
- Work closely with Subcontractor to design / install specialized fabrication jigs and fixtures required for welding various components
- Perform regular inspections to ensure all parts meet Quality requirements
- Provide guidance to Subcontractor for correcting parts that are out of tolerance through the deviation/notification process
- Lead periodic discussions with Subcontractors to ensure timing and sequencing of part fabrications is properly coordinated to ensure that follow-on work can proceed without delay
- Guide Subcontractor during the assembly process (including documentation) following PO requirements to ensure that each assembly meets required engineering tolerances and project Quality requirements
- Maintain Open Issues log to document items resolved and items to be resolved
- Monitor Subcontractor fabrication methods to identify opportunities for improvement
- Provide regular (weekly or monthly depending on project status) reports of each project, including notes on Subcontractor performance regarding schedule and Quality
- Liaison between subcontractor and Konecranes, communicating and addressing concerns of quality, processes/procedures and scheduling.
- ECN Review and verification of implementation with the subcontractor
Knowledge required to perform this role:
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, or other related field, or significant work experience in the field.
- Ability to read and understand fabrication and machining drawings
- Understanding of fabrication and machining tolerances, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- Understanding machine and fabrication manufacturing processes and equipment
- Familiarity with expected durations for various fabrication and machining operations
- Ability to identify potential fabrication defects on welded items visually
- Ability to use measuring tools (calipers, tape measure, angle finder, level, string line, etc.)
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Able to manage a team of employees and multiple projects
- Experienced at compiling and following strict budgets
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Accurate and precise attention to detail
- Goal-oriented and organized leadership
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Organized and able to create multiple timelines, budgets, and schedules
- Able to build solid relationships with team members, vendors, and customers
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, MS Project)
