Environmental Health and Safety Manager

A new and exciting opportunity now exists for a National Environmental Health and Safety Manager (EH&S Manager) to join the team. Based in Sydney and reporting to the Managing Director, the EH&S Manager will be responsible for developing an effective and robust Health and Safety framework that supports and ultimately promotes a safe workplace culture through ongoing health & safety awareness across the organisation. The EH&S Manager will work closely with Business Area Leaders, department and middle management as well as frontline staff to increase EH&S awareness and to proactively coach and support all employees in key areas of risk management, hazard identification/communication, injury management as well as compliance. 


Day to day, the EH&S Manager will be responsible for:

  • Providing advice and support to high-risk departments such as Production, Installation and Service in identifying health and safety hazards as per the risk management procedures and guidelines (local and global) so as to minimise risk exposure in the workplace. 
  • Acting as the Management Representative for all EH&S items as they arise. This includes ensuring that standard EH&S activities such as toolbox meetings, routine 5S inspection etc are carried out in a timely manner and to regularly review and update (where required) current procedures and practices.
  • Investigating, evaluating and following up with respective divisional / departmental managers on root cause and corrective and preventive actions for all Incident reporting in the ARMOR EH&S Incident database so as to ensure completeness and accuracy of incident reporting. This includes findings derived from Safety Walks, Observations and Audits
  • Maintaining a strategic framework for the development of annual organizational EH&S objectives and targets. This includes the development of action plans, budgets and projects to enable delivery of outcomes identified in the Health and Safety Improvement Plan.
  • Performing the role of Lead Auditor for all internal EH&S audits and coordinate with external auditors for the schedule and program of external audits.  This includes notifying relevant departments, accompanying external auditors on their rounds (if required), and ensuring that all audit details, results and closing of all audits are timely and accurately captured in the EHS database. 
  • Working collaboratively and cohesively with the local leadership team and continuously coach and mentor leaders in all aspects of EH&S.
  • Attending safety meetings with main contractors, consultants and owners on job sites on behalf of the relevant Departments whenever necessary so as to ensure all work processes and execution are in compliance with required safety standards
  • Maintain awareness and current knowledge from relevant statutory boards, government authorities, etc on latest regulations and matters on safety, health, environment so as to advise company management accordingly and monitor and ensure the implementation and compliance internally in the company.
  • Assist the Service department with information relating to EH&S matters in preparation for submitting Tenders for major contracts
  • Set and maintain EHS KPIs in consultation with Global & Local management


Academic Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering or Environmental Studies
  • Advanced Diploma OHS minimum


Professional Experience

Minimum 8 years' relevant experience in handling developing, implementing and maintaining EH&S systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment, as well as working with others in implementing new programs and change management

  • Good Knowledge of Workers Compensation Act in varies states and Territory.
  • To have knowledge off and demonstrate the ability to advise and apply statutory obligations in respect to OH&S local legislation.
  • High degree in depth knowledge of the Work Health & Safety Acts in varies states & Territory.
  • Show a high degree of organisational ability.
  • Possess excellent customer relations skills and have a methodical sales approach.
  • Relevant qualification in HSE, Risk Management or similar related field desirable.
  • Available to travel locally & internationally.
