Scheduling Supervisor Position Overview

This position is responsible for the planning and scheduling of all manufactured items, including the purchasing of raw steel and subcontracting services for manufactured items, with the goal of meeting our customer delivery requirements in accordance with company policies and procedures. 


Essential Job Functions

  • Review demand for upcoming product requirements.  Develop production schedules for assigned products to ensure on time delivery.
  • Communicate order statuses with various departments.  Help develop systematic ways for information to flow between departments/organizations  
  • Review capacity report and adjust orders to address either under or over capacity situations.  
  • Work with buyers to develop, maintain, and enhance a close working relationship with new and existing suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain raw material purchasing procedures to ensure on-time delivery and other key supplier performance metrics.
  • Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments and directly supervise the scheduling department.
  • Implement and maintain efficient and accurate systems that support manufacturing requirements for production including KPI’s for scheduling and production
  • Responsible for the motivation and development of subordinates to optimize their performance and their personal and professional growth.
  • Ensure the daily release of production orders to facilitate the production floor and the purchase of raw material.
  • SAP Key User – must be an active person in the planning/manufacturing teams to drive new and innovative ways to utilize SAP/Fiori both on the shop floor and in the office. 

Secondary Job Functions

  • Lead production meetings so that we are proactively addressing issues that prevent schedule attainment
  • Develop planning strategies that reduce leadtime and/or costs. 
  • Interface with project management, sales, and engineering to determine material release dates required for products.
  • Provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements and improved working relationships.
  • Promotes and drives safety initiatives, including safety programs, training, accident investigations, accident prevention/corrective action, and setting safe work practices within the department. 


  • Minimum 5 years scheduling experience or college degree in business or supply chain management. 
  • Knowledge of common manufacturing processes required.  APICS certification strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and ERP software (SAP preferred). 


Other Skills/Abilities

  • Physical requirements may include lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Organized and uses time effectively. 
  • Knowledgeable with ISO quality requirements, OSHA standards, and Kaizen or lean manufacturing principles.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results from others.
  • Must be able to interpret structural and machining blueprints, knowledgeable of fabrication drawings and tolerances.
  • Ability to think ahead and plan for future needs.
