Automation Systems Engineer

We are proud to have a truly global customer base who operate across logistics, warehousing, terminals, and ports, 24/7. This role will provide support to the Automation project team in design, development, installation, commissioning of automation systems and hardware for low level automated technology.

 

You will require a UK Drivers licence for this role because it will involve travel to customer site. 

 

What we are looking for;

You will primarily work on Automation projects in designing, developing, and commissioning automation systems and hardware. In addition, you will provide customer support for automated system solutions.

We are looking for an engineer to join the team who will work under the direction of senior engineers and engineering manager.  You must be able to demonstrate good organisation skills and time keeping, along with attention to detail when producing the designs and development.

 

Good communication and reporting is required when commissioning

  • Experience of working with Automation systems and Automation systems projects (Siemens or Rockwell) with a “hands-on” approach, developing code from scratch.
  • Programming in all IEC61131 is a must, with special emphasis in Function Block (FBD), ladder logic (LAD) and structured text (ST/SCL)
  • Experience in the use of electrical drawings.
  • Knowledge of C, C++ or C# is beneficial
  • Knowledge of Python, JavaScript or any other computer programming language is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Database Systems or Structured Query Language is an advantage.
  • Experience working within some of our key sectors including Port operations, Waste plant recycling or Bulk handling conveyor systems.
  • Panel wiring experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • PLC software development and testing – Siemens (Step 7 Classic and TIA) and either Rockwell (RS Logix 5000 and/or Studio 5000) or Schneider Unity S
  • Capacity (prior knowledge is not required) to work with legacy control systems such Modicon, Siemens S5 or Schneider PL7)
  • HMI application development and testing
  • Electrical and control system design
  • Electrical drawings using Eplan Electric
  • Hardware specification & procurement
  • Hardware configuration
  • Trouble shooting, diagnosing and resolving warehouse and ports automation software related issues
  • Onsite commissioning and minor electrical panel modifications.
