Field Support Technician (electrical)

The Technical Support organization is part of the Technology function within the Business Unit Port Service. Technical Support provides the technical expertise for our customers, partners and frontlines. Technical Support also contributes to the continuous development, maintenance and management of the Port Service product portfolio in close cooperation with Technology and Equipment engineering.

 

Your key responsibilities:
To provide technical support for branch offices and customers on site. To furnish technical support to solve technical issues, where required, by telephone or e-mail or in cooperation with suppliers and technical departments. (For example, to remedy malfunctions in the control system.

In particular:

  • To assess damage based on fault or errors reported by customers or Service subsidiaries. (The problem-solving measures to be based on experience and technical knowledge). If required, to also access damage based on automatically generated fault lists/fault messages (fault code).
  • To troubleshoot by providing technical instructions by telephone or e-mail or where necessary, troubleshoot on site. If required, to provide troubleshooting measures in cooperation with other support technicians and respective specialist departments.
  • To assess damage to parts and equipment under warranty and, if necessary, prepare QM notifications and assessments for Claims Management.
  • To coordinate resources with ever-changing availability such as personnel or equipment (e.g., cranes, tools) with customers or with representatives of field offices for any necessary actions in the field.
  • To confer with other support technicians and respective departments about further procedures or solutions for troubleshooting.
  • To assess and decide whether an on-site assignment is necessary when the problem cannot be solved by remote diagnosis. To coordinate the on-site assignment for personnel and professional implementation with customers and respective specialist departments or branch offices.
  • To provided technical support by identifying components for the spare parts team.

 

What we expect from you:

  • Degree in electrical engineering for industrial products or related field
  • Minimum one (1) year experience involving electrical troubleshooting. Prior experience with cranes in the port technology business sector or a similar industry is a definite asset
  • Knowledge and experience in technical project engineering or design
  • Advanced PC skills, including SAP, MS Office and PLC systems (e.g. S7, Codesys)
  • Fluent in english and german. additional languages are a plus
  • A team player, but also capable to work individually and independently.
  • Ability to work varying overtime hours and are able to travel regularly around the globe

 
Remuneration: Salary scale EG 11 according to Metall NRW tariff
If the above-mentioned criteria are not met, a different role description may be used to define the pay scale. The severely disabled will be preferred if they are equally suitable.
