Data Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our IT, Sustainability team.  

 

Sustainability is very high on our agenda in Konecranes. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of our sustainability data architecture. In this role, you will work with large datasets, and develop and improve data pipelines. You cooperate with the Sustainability team, data scientists and analysts to help with the data-related problems and support their data requirements.   

 

As a Data Engineer (Sustainability), you will play a vital role in supporting Konecranes to be compliant with the existing and emerging regulations (such as Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)) by collecting, parsing, managing, analyzing and visualizing large sets of sustainability data. 

  

Key Responsibilities: 

· Design and construct scalable data pipelines for data ingestion, transformation and distribution. 

· Work closely with data scientists, analysts and stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver quality solutions, as well as assist them with data-related issues. 

· Collaborate with data architects, modelers, and IT team members 

· Optimize data retrieval, and develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations for business teams. 

· Work with various database technologies, including SQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB, Cassandra). 

· Use different languages and tools (e.g. scripting languages) to look for ways to improve or automate current processes. 

· Support the data architecture design and data modelling processes. 

· Develop data management processes for data modelling and data mining 

· Work with large, complex data sets to solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems by applying advanced analytical methods as needed. 

· Translate complex functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture, design, and high-performing software. 

· Utilize programming languages like Java, Scala, Python, or SQL, and tools such as Apache Spark, Kafka, Hive or others relevant to the organization’s technology stack. 

· Develop and maintain Data Catalog and process documentation. 

  

Qualifications: 

· Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. 

· Proven work experience as a Data Engineer, Software Developer, or similar role. 

· Strong knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or similar. 

· Deep understanding of SQL and experience with relational databases, coding/scripting (Python, Java, Scala) and data pipeline and workflow tools. · Proficient understanding of distributed computing principles. 

· Experience with cloud services(AWS, Azure) and stream-processing systems (Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc.) 

· Knowledge of machine learning algorithms is an advantage. 

· Excellent analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse and share significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. 

· Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members. 

· Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple project priorities. 

· Experience with agile ways of working 

· Knowledge of sustainability data is a great advantage
