Weld Quality Inspector - Houston, TX

Title: Weld Quality Inspector 
Travel estimate: 20%+ Interstate (overnight) 
Education: High School Diploma, equivalent or higher – dependent on commensurate experience 
Requirements: Valid Drivers License 

Reports to: KES Global Director – Nuclear Quality Station: KES Facility (Houston TX, New Berlin WI) 

Candidate will act as the KES Quality weld inspector to conduct visual inspections and provide technical expertise at KES manufacturing sites, remote sites, and vendor surveillances. In addition, they will proactively identify potential issues with welded product to confirm that primary welds and secondary welds are adequately documented. Support internal departments with resolutions for technical nonconformances and inspection criteria. 

Overview of Weld Quality Inspector Roles and Responsibilities: 

Departmental 

  • Supports all Engineered Solution’s Business Line quality systems; ISO 9001, ISO 3834-2, NQA-1 and 10 CFR 50 Appendix B components and projects as required by the base load of the other quality department personnel. 

  • Assist in the surveillance of commercial suppliers performing work on nuclear business unit components 
    and services as directed by quality management. 

  • Performs additional quality related tasks as may be assigned by the KES Global Director Nuclear Quality 

Role Specific 

  • Work cohesively with Operations, Purchasing, Engineering and Project Management to ensure satisfactory controls and timely implementation regarding weld quality requirements 

  • Review WPQRs, PQRs and WPS to applicable codes or standards, such as AWS D1.1 and D14.1. 

  • Maintain and review records for vendor and internal WPQRs to enforce conformance to AWS D1.1 and D14.1. 

  • Ensure accurate documentation and inspection of weld maps and KES drawing requirements 

  • Review and interpret data from NDT reports to assist in the disposition of pass/fail for welded assemblies. 

  • Schedule and coordinate meetings with other third-party or vendor inspections, be the interface between customer inspection teams. 

  • Verify that welding equipment is properly maintained and calibrations are up to date. 

  • Perform and evaluate VT on in-process and completed welded assemblies. 

  • Communicate discrepancies to the responsible internal or external parties and support resolution 

  • Assist in facilitating weld repairs/rework upon issuance of product disposition from KES Engineering 

  • Assist others in preparing and entering Non-conformance Reports 

  • Function as a technical expert during supplier qualifications and audit/surveys. 

  • Conduct surveillance of suppliers performing work business line components 
    and services as directed by quality management. 

  • Completes training in use of required tooling and MT&E, to support manufacturing, Field, and 
    production QA/QC responsibilities. 

  • Responsible for following safety and environmental rules and regulations 

  • Read, understand, and apply the contents of the respective Business Line Quality Systems for project compliance 

  • Performs additional quality related tasks as may be assigned by the KES Global Director Nuclear Quality 
     

 

 

Experience 

 

  • Technical aptitude/acumen with machinery, engineering, literacy and interpretation of blue prints. 

  • Familiarity, not exclusive to performing or inspecting, welds and/or nondestructive testing 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) 

  • AWS CWI certification, or capability to obtain immediately
