Legal Counsel

We are seeking a business minded and experienced legal professional with a hands-on attitude to join our Global Legal team as a Legal Counsel in China. This role will be based in Shanghai.


In this role you will be reporting to SVP, General Counsel.


Key responsibilities include

  • Responsibility for managing the day to day operational needs of all KC businesses in China
  • Managing the corporate matters of the various legal entities in China
  • Providing legal advice within the area of expertise to functional or operational area managers to ensure that their current or proposed activities, policies, business practices, and transactions comply with all relevant laws and regulations;
  • Drafting, reviewing, modifying and approving legal contracts, letters of agreement, and other documents related to a variety of trade, commercial, financial, and operational matters (for example sales agreements, procurement agreements, leases, employment contracts) to protect the organization's legal and business interests;
  • Managing the use of external counsels in litigations and other legal matters
  • Assisting and implementing relevant Group policies and instructions in the region
  • Providing legal and compliance training to related stakeholders
  • Providing advice and assistance in IPR related matters  
  • Taking legal actions in collection of receivables
  • Assisting in insurance related questions


What we expect from you?

  • Master of Laws or other comparable legal university degree, focus preferably on Business Law
  • at least 5 years of work experience in an international environment in a law firm or in a similar in-house position. Prefer candidates with a good mixture of in-house and private practice experience.
  • Basic business sense and interests to approach issues from both legal and business perspectives.
  • Good professional skills in commercial, corporate, anti-trust, intellectual property and/or other relevant legislation
  • Business minded solution provider with good communication skills and good people skills
  • Ability to work under multi-business units/ countries
  • Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in other languages is a plus
  • Hands-on attitude
  • Ability and willingness to travel, when needed
